01 - 03 October
Friday 1st October
The opening event will be a Meet and Greet in the bar of the Officers’ Mess at RAF Waddington, from 8pm until eleven. A self-service barrel of draft beer will be available to slake thirsts and thin out that early scrum at the bar. Members are advised to eat beforehand as the mess will not be providing any snacks during the evening.
Saturday 2nd October
The 2nd of October will be the the 6th anniversary of the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) Memorial Unveiling Day. Phil Davies and Barry Smith have volunteered to provide guided tours of the memorial site from 1030 onwards. There is no charge for this event but members are asked to indicate their attendance on the enclosed reunion booking form. Lunch can be taken individually at the IBCC cafe.
The afternoon will be spent at RAF Waddington. We will meet up at the Officers’ Mess car park at 1330. Service transport will take us to Operations Wing Headquarters, where the Association’s General Meeting will take place at 1345. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Station Commander will deliver Waddington’s mission statement and brief us on Waddington’s current role. The station is presently undergoing profound changes and the update is eagerly anticipated.
After the station brief, the author and military historian Chris Ward will give a short talk on his new book which details each and every operation conducted by 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron throughout WWII. It is hoped that the final event of the afternoon will be a group photograph in front of the famous Black Buck Vulcan XM607.
Saturday evening will see us back to RAF Waddington for the Association’s annual dinner in the Officers’ Mess (6.45 pm for 7.15 pm). Coaches will leave the mess at 11pm for the return to Damons Hotel.
Sunday 3rd October
The Wykes family will once again welcome us to Dunholme Lodge Farm for our service of remembrance on Sunday at 11am. We are indebted to the Wykes for their generosity in hosting us and for the provision of a marquee and seating for the service.
The concluding event will be an informal lunch at the IBCC restaurant. Main courses can be had for ￡10.99, including coffee or tea; starters can be had for ￡4.45 and desserts at ￡3.50. Individuals will settle their own bills before departure. Please indicate attendance on the booking form so we can advise the IBCC chef of numbers.
