15 - 17 may
The committee met recently to plan the 2020 reunion. The reunion will take place between Friday 15th May and Sunday 17th May. The programme is outlined below.
Friday 15th May
The reunion weekend kicks off with a Meet and Greet in the bar of the Officers’ Mess at RAF Waddington. This year it was felt the start time should be delayed to 8 pm, so that members and guests will have more time to enjoy leisurely dinners before arrival. Eating beforehand is highly recommended as the mess will not be providing any snacks during the opening event this year.
Saturday 16th May
In a new departure this year, Newark Air Museum is hosting a ‘Cold War Call-Up’ event over the weekend 16/17 May. At previous events the focus has been just on the three V-Force aircraft the Valiant, Victor and Vulcan; however, the scope has been widened this year to cover all aspects of the Cold War era. This will allow additional emphasis to be placed on many of the other iconic Cold War era aircraft that are displayed at the museum and thereby giving visitors the chance to get up close and personal with them. Coinciding, as it does, with our reunion weekend, the committee felt the opportunity to join this event was too good to miss. Transport will depart from Damons Hotel at 12.30 pm, leaving the Air Museum at 4.00 pm for the return journey. Once the enclosed participation forms have been received and collated, we will advise the organiser of numbers attending and take advantage of the reduced group entrance fee of £8.00 per person. For those who wish to do so, lunch can be taken in the new Newark Air Museum cafe at any time during the afternoon. Several museum aircraft, including the Vulcan, Varsity and Hastings, will be open to visitors for a small additional charge of £1.00 per aircraft visited. It is hoped that an aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will perform flypasts at some time during the afternoon. On Saturday evening the annual dinner will take place in the Officers’ Mess at RAF Waddington (6.45 pm for 7.15 pm).
Sunday 17th May
Once again we are enormously grateful to the Wykes family for welcoming us to Dunholme Lodge Farm for our service of remembrance on Sunday at 11am. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Adam Watson. The provision of a marquee and seating adjacent to the RAF Dunholme Lodge Memorial is much appreciated. As last year, the concluding event will be an informal lunch at the Carpenters’ Arms, High Street, Fiskerton, Lincoln, LN3 4HF.
