Black Buck Vulcan XM607

Some good news concerning the famous Black Buck Vulcan XM607. RAF Waddington’s Station Commander, Gp Capt Steve Kilvington, intends to make XM607 the centre piece for next year’s 40th Anniversary of Black Buck, the operational name for the air attacks on Port Stanley and its air defences during the Falklands conflict. He has appointed Sqn Ldr Suzanne Wall the Vulcan 607 project officer at Waddington.

607 gets a pedicure!

The aircraft is parked on the northeast side of Waddington airfield and has endured the rigours of Lincolnshire weather for many years. Mel James, whose close association with Vulcan 607 extends back to the early part of 1982, has been instrumental in arranging for a structural survey to be carried out by two of the engineers who look after the Vulcan at Norwich Aviation Museum. They identified the remedial work that needs to be done and confirmed that, with a certain amount of preparation, the aircraft can make a slow and careful journey across the airfield to one of Waddington’s hangars. The good news is that the airframe has not suffered major corrosion, which had previously been a concern.
